Confirmation - At Confirmation, we recommit to participate in the Church’s work and mission. Sealing with the gift of the Spirit at Confirmation strengthens us for ongoing service in the Body of Christ in the Church and in the world. It prepares us to be active participants in the Church’s mission and to “bear witness to the Christian faith in words accompanied by deeds”
Several years ago, Bishop Stika created a commission to examine, for pastoral reasons, the age of confirmation in the Diocese of Knoxville. After much prayer, discernment and further consultation, Bishop Stika has decided to move the age (grade level) of confirmation, effective January 1, 2019, to the 5th and 6th grade level.
In regards to Confirmation preparation, it will involve a diocesan wide policy that will require preparation standardization. (Note: the policy will permit allowances for some flexibility regarding the size of the particular programs.)
With that we here at Holy Family will begin having Confirmation classes as follows:
Pre-Confirmation Class– 5th grade
Confirmation Class - 6th grade
RCIA - Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, is a process developed by the Catholic Church for prospective converts to Catholicism who are above the age of infant baptism. Candidates are gradually introduced to aspects of Catholic beliefs and practices. The RCIA team is a group of Catholics, or recently converted Catholics, who support and work with those people who are curious about the Catholic Church and/or are looking forward to becoming Catholics. Team members share their experiences about their Catholic faith.
